Automated Simulations

چکیده

Fast, inexpensive computers have become the experimental laboratories of research statisticians. Exploratory simulations provide quick feedback on the validity of conjectures and often suggest modifications leading to new approaches. Simulations reject false conjectures and identify suitable candidates for the rigorous task of theorem proving. In spite of the growth in computing power, the tedium of simulation programming often results in studies that fail to identify important properties. Software that automates routine tasks dodges many of these problems and frees time for thinking about the problem rather than debugging code. This paper describes the design and use of a computing environment that automates the tasks of describing, running, and analyzing simulations. The paper begins with a short illustration intended to convey broad concepts needed in an efficient simulation program. Building on this discussion, I describe the design of the software and use a prototype implementation to run a small simulation. Interested readers may obtain this prototype as well as further documentation and examples via anonymous FTP from the system at hilbert.wharton.upenn.edu. The prototype is written in X-Lisp and requires the Lisp-Stat software described in Tierney (1990).

Thermo-Elastic-Plastic Analysis of Plate Forming Process by Flame Bending Method

Flame bending process is one of the forming processes of steel plates. During this process, plate is formed with heating by gas torch flame followed by controlled cooling along specified paths. Considering simple tools used in the process, it is a popular and economical forming method. At present, this process is manually done on the basis of skilled technician’s experience. Experimental and ...

Cost Function Modelling for Semi-automated SC, RTG and Automated and Semi-automated RMG Container Yard Operating Systems

This study analyses the concept of cost functions for semi-automated Straddle Carrier (SC), Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) and automated Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) container yard operating cranes. It develops a generic cost based model for a pair-wise comparison, analysis and evaluation of economic efficiency and effectiveness of container yard equipment to be used for decision-making by terminal pla...

Parallel Curved Mesh Adaptation for Large Scale High-Order Finite Element Simulations

This paper presents the development of a parallel adaptive mesh control procedure designed to operate with high-order finite element analysis packages to enable large scale automated simulations on massively parallel computers. The curved mesh adaptation procedure uses curved entity mesh modification operations. Applications of the curved mesh adaptation procedure have been developed to support...

Development and Validation of an Automated Simulation Capability in Support of Integrated Demand Management

Integrated Demand Management (IDM) is a nearto mid-term NASA concept that proposes to address mismatches in air traffic system demand and capacity by using strategic flow management capabilities to pre-condition demand into the more tactical Time-Based Flow Management System (TBFM). This paper describes an automated simulation capability to support IDM concept development. The capability closel...

An automated transition state search using classical trajectories initialized at multiple minima.

Very recently, we proposed an automated method for finding transition states of chemical reactions using dynamics simulations; the method has been termed Transition State Search using Chemical Dynamics Simulations (TSSCDS) (E. Martínez-Núñez, J. Comput. Chem., 2015, 36, 222-234). In the present work, an improved automated search procedure is developed, which consists of iteratively running diff...
